General Directorate of Spatial Planning performs the following tasks:
❖ Macro scale planning; to prepare and approve Spatial Strategy Plans and Territorial Plans
❖ Urban strategies; to prepare,monitor and update Urban Development Strategy and Action Plan -KENTGES (2010-2023)
❖ To identify strategies for rural settlements
❖ Coastal areas planning; to prepare and approve Integrated Coastal Areas Plans, to carry out activities such as approving shoreline and land development plans related with coastal investments
❖ Land Development planning activities; to approve land development plans related with special issues (public investments, military areas, mass housing, special projects, urban transformation projects etc.) identified by various laws
❖ Urban Design studies; to coordinate and approve urban design projects and master plans related with special projects, mass housing, areas under disaster risk, reserved areas
❖ Mapping and Real Estate Works; To prepare, approve and ensure the application of the maps and parcellation plans for land development plans related with special issues (coastal areas, mass housing, special projects, urban transformation projects etc.) identified by various laws
❖ Geological Surveys; To coordinate and approve micro-zoning survey reports and geological-geotechnical survey reports for land development plans
❖ To develop Land Development Law and its regulations with the aim of planned spatial development
❖ To guide implementation of these legislation
Duties given with Decree 644 is as follows:
● To prepare and approve spatial strategy plans and territorial
plans;
● To approve plans regarding the areas authorized by the Cabinet, all public investments and facilities regarding national security, prohibited military zones, energy and telecommunication;
● To approve plans regarding the practices done by the Housing Development Administration according to Illegal Housing Law 775 and, Mass Housing Law 2985 and investments to be made on all real estates by public or private sector and on special project areas;
● To prepare or have it prepared and approve geological surveys, maps, territorial plans, master plans, implementation plans and parcellation plans of any type or scale and relevant changes in case of not being approved by the responsible authority in 3 months;
● Conducting duties related with coastal edge line, land development planning and approval procedures regarding coasts and coastal investments;

To conduct geological surveys, mapping and land development plan implementation works,To provide financial and technical support to local authorities.
